That's right, Backdoor is 1 year old, and counting!!!

It has been a year of dining, wining and listening to the blues and it has been a blissful experience for us! Through the rockin' ride, we've met new people and cultivated friendly relations with fellow blueseros and foodies along the way... the quality of fun in all those nights spent hangin' loose and talkin' shop with the blues as backdrop is almost sinful!!!

As our anniversary treat to all you people who've been very supportive and shared the trip with us, we're hosting an ANNIVERSARY JAM cum CHRISTMAS PARTY on December 7, Friday. We expect friends and musicians who share our passion for blues music to party and jam with us as well as regular Backdoor guests.

To sweeten the anniversary pot (not that pot!), entrance is waived for the night and San Miguel Beer products would be served at 20 pesos per bottle from December 3 to December 8, 2007! Yes, 20 bucks!!!

Another first at the Backdoor! Firsts, actually...

SNAKECHARMER will rock the Backdoor on Saturday, October 27. This would be the first time they'd play our hole as a group. Another first is the sound of keys ringing inside Backdoor.... Neil's sound. And if my alco-mind was still on track last night, i remember hearing a voice... a whisper in my ear about bringing a snare drum. Three freakin' firsts in one night!!!

It's fast becoming a culture that jammers drop by on Saturdays, and we're sure this one would be no different. Honestly, I am looking forward to this group's stint. I tell you guys, this bunch is tight! No excuses, you gotta check this one out!!!

Note: They'd play 1 long set, so be there early!

Finally...

Last time out, Jook Jam was nowhere to be found. Delta Slim himself was down with something and PLUG had to hold fort. But September 29 was one hell of a rocking blues night with Chester and Emy and guests Ruben and Ronnie pushing the trip to the hilt!

Now... everybody's healthy! And we've heard of new songs in the playlist... classic blues-rock from the 70's... Johnny Winter, Hendrix, EC, Zep, Stones, Dylan... can't wait to hear them changes! (Buddy Miles ata yun, ah!)

All you blue people, it's another rocking night at the Backdoor! See you there!!!

It's Jook Jam Night at the Backdoor!!!

It's another night of tasty acoustic blues as Jook Jam featuring Deltaslim and the boys invade the Backdoor on September 15, a saturday! It's one of those rare nights when you get to hear songs from the Delta being played the way it should be. Robert Johnson...Big Bill Broonzy...Willie Dixon... these are just some of the greats Jook Jam would pay tribute to in a night of fun and the most authentic acoustic blues music this side of town!

It's Kejengjejeng's second coming at the Backdoor, and from the looks of it, this is going to be a "bluesier" Kejengjejeng!

Juanlunatec would be doing their brand of bluesy psychedelia... their own songs as well as covers. Adding a touch of the real thing are guests Jook Jam featuring Deltaslim and his cohorts. "Down and dirty" acoustic blues, guys!

Come August 24, a friday, Backdoor would be serving the same good food, ice cold brew from the bar, and groovy music out of the box! Check us out!!!

Kejengjejeng 2 is being mounted once again by Entrada with technical support from EJL Studio. Show starts at 9pm.

Blues Listening Party

The blues community is a-buzz, and "blueseros" are trooping to the Backdoor for a listening party!

People who dig the blues, musicians as well as music lovers, will be having a listening party where the focus would be on enjoying recorded music seeping through the small speakers of the Backdoor. There'd be people who'd be bringing music to be shared with other attendees... there'd be enthusiasts sharing the gospel of the blues... and then there's us who'd be there simply to enjoy the blues, meet fellow blues lovers and gladly take in everything there is to absorb.

If you're into the blues, and know people who are into it too, then the Backdoor should be the destination of choice on the 3rd of August, a friday. Party starts at 6pm, but the blues will be playing way before the first soul comes through the Backdoor. Spread the word, the blues is still alive and well!!!

Backdoor is having a first on 14 July 2007! KEJENGJEJENG, An Acoustic Blues Night, is being mounted by Entrada Productions with ample technical support from EJL Studios. This event from the young 'uns of Entrada will open the gates for more exciting nights of blues music in the future. So, what else is there to say?! Come the night of July 14, a saturday, and you're craving for good chow, or you're thirsty and need a bottle of cold brew, or you want to sample these young guys' take on neo-blues, Backdoor is the place to be! We assure you, you'd get all three fixes!!!

Summertime Blues Beer Promo

We've all heard the lyrics... "but there ain't no cure for the summertime blues."

Well, Backdoor's got the cure!!! We will be having a Beer Promo that would start on April 10 and would last til the end of May. Chilled SMB Pale Pilsen and Light would be served at 23 PESOS a pop from 5pm 'til 7pm, and 25 PESOS after 7pm til closing time. Same good food, down and dirty blues music, and dirt-cheap cold brew!!! So all you foodies, bluesmen and brew lovers out there, it's time to cure your summertime blues at the Backdoor!

A Peek Into The Blues

Last night, last night...

A new friend and fellow enthusiast, Pete, brought a long time pal of his to check out the blues at the Backdoor. This is the second time he's done this in as many visits. The new guy, John, is a Fil-Am. I'd say mid 50's, definitely caucasian features, with a true penchant for the music. The mid-week "blues talk" was a real boost... a natural high, if I may say. In between my swigs of gin and their gulps of ale, we traveled down the blues alley. John coming up to Luther Allison backstage in the early 70's and getting a song dedicated to him by the man during the show?! 'twas heady...

And then there was this face peeking through the door, a familiar face. The Backdoor would be more than glad to play host to your group one of these nights, sir.

Backdoor Parties

It's that time of the year, and Backdoor is playing host to a number of parties. Last Tuesday, Dec. 12, it was UP KAPITAS night. The room was full of intelligent talk, laughter and good food... 'twas defininitely a night of "stimullect"!

Tomorrow, Dec. 16, is Globe Platinum's turn to blues the night away. Our gut feel tells us this is going to be one alco-filled party!!! And we're all eager to welcome them at the Backdoor!

1. Cream Reunion at Madison Square Garden, NYC - October 2005 (DVD Video)
-This is a 7-cam audience recording. Video is not as clear as we want it to be, audio is
okay. Bottom line is that there is no commercial release of their 4-night stint at MSG, so
this is a collector's gem.

2. Keb Mo "Live" at Estival Jazz 1997 Lugano, Switzerland (Audio)
-This one is sweet... great soundboard recording, unreleased commercially.

3. Robben Ford "Live" at Yoshi's, Oakland,California (Audio)
-Clear FM broadcast of a 1998 gig. Robben is at his best in this one. A better-sounding
boot than the Sta.Monica gig with Sting that's been largely circulated.

4. Johnny Winter "Live" in Barcelona 1970 (Audio)
-Collectors say this liberated bootleg is Johnny's best documented live performance.

5. Derek and the Dominoes "Live" at the Fillmore East 1970 (Audio)

-Great sounding soundboard! A complete recording of their two-night stint at the Fillmore on four (4) compact discs. Never released commercially in its entirety.

6. Taj Mahal and the Hula Blues Band "Live" at the Estival Jazz 2006 Lugano, Switzerland (Audio)

-Another great sounding soundboard recording! This, like most of the stuff in this list, was not released commercially.

There's a long list of gems in our bin, and there's more coming in as we seek and trade for new stuff. Everybody's most welcome to satisfy their craving for fresh blues-based material while sampling our menu and sipping (or gulping!) their beverage of choice. See you at the Backdoor!

The birth of the only blues joint in town.

Backdoor Blues Café is a small joint in Quezon City where cool heads could meet, feast on the eclectic food mix, talk over cold brew, and listen to “down and dirty” blues music all night long.

Coming out of our speakers would be the sounds of Muddy Water, Howlin’ Wolf, Robert Johnson, Little Walter, Willie Dixon, Buddy Guy, BB King, Eric Clapton, Junior Kimbraugh. R.L. Burnside, Albert King, Otis Rush, Freddie King, Johnny Winter, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Robert Cray, John Mayall… from the wailin’ blues out of the cotton fields of America to blues-rock and brit-blues to jazzy blues, we’d be playin’ ‘em like no other place in town!

Backdoor is a blues haunt where the enthusiast can groove to uncirculated audio and video concerts and commercial and unreleased studio sessions, and the best place for the uninitiated to get their first taste of the blues.

We’re small and intimate, the booze is cold, prices are very reasonable, and we have something for veggie lovers, carnivores, and just about every bud.
